First Harvest of Peas

First Pea Harvest

Peas in a Pod More peas in a pod

As I said in my last post, the front garden is maturing at a rapid pace. I gathered about two handfuls of peas-Oregon Pioneer variety, off the vines this morning and I think I will have enough ripe to cook a mess by tomorrow. Mmmm….I can just taste those fresh peas now.

Note: The term “Mess” is southern vernacular for enough produce to cook and serve at a family meal.

How nice to have enjoyed some excellent peas! My favorite way to cook fresh (green) beans is to stir-fry them in olive oil with onions and garlic. That’s my usual way of cooking any vegetable nowadays that olive oil is ‘good for you’!
