Marvelous Marigolds

Marvelous Marigolds 2

I have been remiss this summer not to mention one of the most beautiful inhabitants of the Carolina Victory Garden, Marigolds. Here are mine, between the scallop squash and the Thompson broccoli. My neighbor and I plant marigolds in our gardens because they are reputed to repel some types of insects and attract others. I am not sure if that is totally true or not, but they certainly add a nice spot of color to the garden that lasts through out the growing season. They are self sustaining as well. If you save their seeds from one year to the next, you can grow more marigolds!

Do you plant flowers in your Victory Garden? If so, which ones?

How pretty. I haven’t any veggies short of a few tomatoes plants this year…too many trees have grown to shade the garden. (Heading to Greenwood on Monday for a few days!)
