Garden Goal #9

January 5, 2010

I will learn more about my camera so that I can take better photos of the Carolina Victory Garden in 2010. I have a Nikon D70 digital SLR with two lenses…the one that came with and a zoom lens…power I can’t remember at the moment. The camera is about 5 years old. I can take adequate photos with it, but think I could do better.

  1. I will seek out a couple of photography blogs and see what I can learn from them.
  2. I will seek out a photography class or workshop that I can take. Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden offers one or two reasonably priced classes.(non affiliate links)
  3. I will check the library to see what resources I might find there as well.
  4. Practice makes perfect.

Any suggestions?

Hey thanks! If I can ever find a month when my schedule doesn’t conflict, I am going to take the class at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden. I do also have a dvd that came with my camera. I have listened to parts of it, but then I don’t practice for a while and so forget what to do sometimes. I wouldn’t be surprised if Park Seed or one of the local colleges close to Greenwood didn’t have a course…as I am sure I could go to the local Tech college for a more extensive program of study. I’ll check out those blogs.

    Hi, Lauren-
Kudos on your diligence in your New Years resolutions!

I’d add a final one — that’s have fun with your gardening….and with your photography.

Learning about your camera’s abilities will always be helpful… we took along a small (new) Panasonic Lumix while traveling recently , and I’ve been surprised at how excellent the photos have been.

But, we obviously had no idea about how to set the camera up for maximum resolution, etc. (happily, that’s not what we needed anyway). Hmm, a bit of manual reading might have been useful, but digital cameras are WAY too complex, in my opinion (uh, why would I would to have video, too?)

    Happy New Year,

      Hi Lisa,
Glad you are back….Thanks for your suggestions. Actually goal #10 has been posted, but not with it’s action items. It is scheduled for later this week. Check back and see what you think.

I’ve been waiting to see the photos from your trip. I’ll stop by your blog over the next few days to see what you saw.

Happy New Year to you too,

You have set up some GREAT goals for yourself. If I may be so bold, perhaps you might find some useful informtion and inspiration in my blog: ?

I’ve been a nature photographer for about 10 years now and still learning my craft every single day. If you ever have questions, feel free to drop me a line.
