Floral Follies

June 13, 2010

The roses have been very pretty this year. I only have the one bush. I inherited it from previous owners of the house. When we first arrived, it was almost dead from lack of water and neglect. It has been a struggle. We moved it, fed it, pruned it and this has been a good year except for the beetles. Those will be the next challenge. Anyway, I thought you might enjoy seeing this pretty little rose. I don’t know what variety it is, but it is prettiest just before it opens fully.

The bees have been enjoying one of the newest additions to the front garden. I’ve added two different varieties of Monarda or Bee Balm. This one is kind of raspberry colored. I don’t know the specific variety as it wasn’t on the plant when I purchased it. The bees certainly like it though. There are two smaller plants that are of the Jacob Cline variety. They haven’t bloomed yet, but will be bright red when they do.
